final conference of the DAMOCLES COST action

This summer we will welcome you in Lisbon for the final conference of the DAMOCLES COST action. The conference is entitled ‘Perspectives and ways forward in Compound Event research’ and will be hosted by the Instituto Dom Luiz during 6-8 September 2022.

This conference ends the four years of DAMOCLES and aims to bring together the ‘Compound Events’ research community that derived from this network. We aim to discuss recent research findings about all aspects of Compound Events and the lessons learned from the work coordinated by DAMOCLES.

Two invited contributions by distinguished scientists on Compound Events research will be hosted: Nina Ridder (Research Associate at the ARC Centre of Excellence for Climate Extremes, Sydney, Australia) and Nicholas Simpson (Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the African Climate & Development Initiative (ACDI), Cape Town, South Africa).

The call for abstracts is now open and the deadline of submission is 27 May 2022. You can find all the info and instructions on the conference website: https://ce.campus.ciencias.ulisboa.pt/ . We encourage contributions dealing with: Drivers of compound events; Compound event forecasting; Socio-economic impacts; Biosphere impacts; Analyzing historical events; Cascading effects; Statistical and physical modelling; Compound event trends and projections; and related topics.

Note that the conference will be held in person only! It will be very exciting to celebrate the efforts of this international and multidisciplinary network and discuss how to keep this research community engaged after the end of DAMOCLES.

Looking forward for your participation and an exciting conference!
